    "The Pilgrimage of Temperance Mack" should be in your list of references about the Macks. It presents a first hand account through a collection of correspondence collected by a Michigan university that I need to look up again. I think it's Northern Michigan. It also explains about the Pontiac Company of Saints. You can also find a record of the excommunication of the deacon from the church the Macks attended until they joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the public library in Pontiac, Michigan.

  The emergence and growth of the Church in Pontiac is credited to Almira Mack and Lucy Mack Smith. Lucy’s brother Stephen Mack moved from Tunbridge, Vermont, to Detroit, Michigan, in 1807 and then settled in Pontiac, twenty-six miles north of Detroit in 1818. 14  Almira Mack, 15  the youngest of Stephen’s twelve children, left Pontiac to visit her aunt Lucy in Manchester, New York, in May 1830. On hearing the message of the restoration, she received baptism into the Church. 16  In 1831, Almira moved to Kirtland, Ohio, with the Smiths. On June 7, 1831, Hyrum Smith, John Murdock, Lyman Wight, and John Corrill were commanded by revelation to journey to Missouri “by the way of Detroit.” 17  Almira Mack and Lucy Smith accompanied Hyrum on this mission as far as Pontiac in order to visit the Macks.   Initial History of the Church in Pontiac 1830-1845 Stephen Mack, an uncle of the Prophet Joseph Smith, was the founder of Pontiac. He was married to Temperance Bond and they had twelve children. Woodward Ave was laid out by him to move his products, mostly lumber, from his Pontiac businesses to the market place, Detroit on the river. He died in 1826. So his family and business travel past the future site of the Detroit Michigan Temple on Woodward Ave. Shortly after the Church was organized, one of his daughters, Almira Mack, traveled to Manchester, New York to visit her aunt, Lucy Mack Smith, mother of the prophet. She received the gospel as soon as she heard it and was baptized May 1830, at Palmyra, Wayne Co., New York by David Whitmer and confirmed by Joseph Smith.
